Media: Was That Phil Johnson?

TORONTO, ONTARIO - I happened to be listening to the on-line feed of KUOW, a public radio station out of Seattle, Washington, earlier today when an Emergency Alert System test interrupted the broadcast.  The voice sounded familiar to me, and I thought it was that of Phil Johnson, a longtime host on the family of stations in Seattle including KIRO, the 1990's incarnation of KIRO-FM, and KNWX.

A quick web search revealed that Johnson had died in March 2024. Noted in the obituary, however was this line:  "He also volunteered with King County emergency alert system (EAS)."  (Interestingly, this was apparently an Island County test, not a King County test.)  So, my ears had not deceived me.  Johnson's voice lives on as authoritative messenger in EAS tests in western Washington state, something that likely brightens the day for many longtime listeners in the region.
